Linnæus in Gotland (Eng.) Taking the opportunity to study the original diary of Linnæus at the Linnaean Society, Burlington House in London, Marita Jonsson has photographed the text, page by page, including a few never published sketches by Linnæus´ hand. She followed up her research in the archives by travelling around the island of Gotland in 2005 and 2006 visiting the same sites that Linnæus saw. What makes this book of special interest is that it shows the landscape and sites as Linnæus visited them in 1741. They are described and photographed on the very same day, 265 years after Linnæus’ visit, and at the same time of day. Some of these experiences and sights are very much as Linnæus saw them, but some have totally changed. The book contains the texts and drawings of Linnæus, day by day, along with the text and photographs of how the landscape appears today. Marita Jonsson is the writer and photographer of more than 20 books on nature, gardens, art, architecture and
handicraft. She was for more than 15 years the Director of Monuments and Sites of Gotland and is today a fulltime historian and writer. She has earlier published the book, Carl Linnæus- boningar, trädgårdar och miljöer in
